Supplementation

Supplements are one of the most talked-about topics in the gym — but also one of the most misunderstood.

Every week I meet new members who’ve been told to “take this” or “try that,” without really knowing whether they need it or if it’s even good for them. They’re motivated, eager to start their fitness journey, but unsure of what direction to take. That’s where education comes in.

As a coach, personal trainer, and fitness enthusiast myself, I believe it’s our responsibility to help people understand not just what supplements are, but also why, when, and how to use them properly. Taking control of your health means knowing what you put into your body — the same way you pay attention to your nutrition.

Why Supplements?

Supplements aren’t magic pills. They don’t replace hard work, consistency, or balanced nutrition. Instead, they are exactly what the name says: supplements — tools to support your training, recovery, and overall health when the timing and purpose are right.

Let’s go through some of the most common ones you’ll hear about at the gym.

1. Creatine – The Power Booster ⚡

If I had a pound for every time a new gym member asked me about creatine, I’d probably own my own fitness studio by now!

Creatine is a natural compound already present in your body. It helps produce energy during high-intensity exercise and can even benefit brain function.

Why take it?

  • Boosts strength and performance.
  • Supports muscle growth and recovery.
  • Can also benefit mental health.

When to take it?

  • 30 minutes before training for an energy boost.
  • Or as part of a post-workout recovery shake.
  • Research shows it’s safe to take daily, even on rest days.

2. Whey / Isolate Protein – The Muscle Builder 🥤

Protein shakes are probably the most recognizable supplement on the market. Whey protein is especially popular with anyone aiming to build muscle, recover faster, or simply hit their daily protein goals.

Why take it?

  • Convenient way to boost protein intake.
  • Helps with muscle growth and repair.
  • Useful as a quick meal replacement when life gets busy.

Where do you find it?

  • Most often as powder for shakes.
  • Also available in protein bars, cereals, and even snacks.

3. Berberine – The Underrated Helper ❤️

Less common in gyms but still worth knowing about, Berberine is a plant-based compound usually taken in capsules or tablets.

Why take it?

  • Helps regulate blood sugar.
  • Often used to support heart health.
  • Can be beneficial for individuals with diabetes.

⚠️ A word of caution: always check supplement labels. Watch for hidden sugars and fillers — they often sneak in under many different names.

Final Thoughts

Supplements can play a role in your fitness journey — but only if you understand them and use them wisely. They are not shortcuts. They are tools.

  • Educate yourself before taking anything.
  • Use them to support your goals, not replace the basics.
  • And always remember: consistency in training and nutrition is what truly drives progress.

Stay healthy. Keep training. Keep grinding.

Be Legendary.
Healthy yours,
Coach Vivi
